Haul: OPI Nail Polish, Bath & Body Works and Sephora (Swatches and Impressions)

Marissa, here! I’m back to share items I bought with the gift cards my friends gave to me on my birthday. It was pretty nice of them. I ❀ you all~! Thank you for making my birthday a special one. ^^

Left to Right: It’s My Year (Miss Universe Collection), Not Like the Movies (Katy Perry Collection), Crown Me Already! (Miss Universe Collection)

Left to Right: Not like the Movies, Crown Me Already on top of It’s My Year, It’s My Year, Crown Me Already! and Crown Me Already! on top of Not Like the Movies.

While I was out doing my own shopping, my aunt had purchased some nail polishes from TJMaxx, which were waiting for me once I got home. Let’s just say I was ecstatic!! She gave me a chunky silver glitter, a purple gold chrome, and a dark opal colored nail polish. They’re gorgeous! You can’t see it very well, but It’s My Year is so awesome!! When it hits the right angle in the light it will either reflect a pretty plum purple (alliteration!! OH MY!) color or a fiery copper color. Even though these polishes are all from past collections, I’m always happy to add new nail polish(es) to my repertoire. I always get excited–I love thinking of combinations in my head. I know, I have a problem. I am an addict and I admit it. LOL.

If you read my previous posts you would know that I am currently looking for a seasonal job because in January I will be traveling overseas for a month. I can’t really take a full-time or even a part-time job. So, I went ahead and dropped off my application to Bath & Body Works just last Saturday and they called me on Monday (Today, as I write) to set up an interview. (UPDATE: The interview went very well~!) Anyway, while I was there, I figured I would use my gift cards to purchase a few things. I got 5 pocket bacs for $5 and three lip products, which were buy 2 get 1 free. I got two lip products for my mum, because she gets cracked lips very easily even though she drinks a lot of water. And, for myself, I bought the ever so popular Rose Salve from C.O. Bigelow. I love it so far, the fragrance isn’t a sickening heavy rose smell, it’s actually quite mild. You can use it for your cuticles, elbows, lips, etc. “May be used on lips, face, cuticles, elbows, knees, chapped or very dry skin patches”, according to the Bath and Body Works website.

Snow Frosted Apple: Can’t exactly describe it, reminds me of apple juice.
Holy Berry Wreath: Crisp, citrus aroma.
Fresh Picked Strawberries: Definitely one my favorites, very fruity, reminds me of strawberry jam.
Winter Candy Apple: Sugary and sweet, with a hint of spice.
Strawberry Cupcake: Decadent just like the name, to me it’s reminiscent of strawberry mascarpone frosting.

I also tried to apply for Sephora. I asked myself, ‘Why not? If I don’t try, I’ll never know.” So, I filled out the application and gave it to them this afternoon, attached with my resume. I really hope I get an interview for this too. I’d feel pretty accomplished if I was at least considered for an interview. I mean, how awesome would that be?! But, I’m trying not to get my hopes up, just in case it ends in disappointment.

While I was at Sephora, I bought myself another concealer because the one I had just doesn’t work for me right now. My skin had broken out recently from a allergic reaction to orange extract. I really do think I have some sort of sensitivity to oranges. I’ve felt nauseous a few times after consuming orange juice. It ended horribly, I’ll leave it at that.

❀ the Stila concealer! So far I’m digging it! It gets rid of the redness from my acne I had developed from the allergic reaction. It’s called the Stila: Perfecting Concealer. I have the Shade D. Which at first I thought would be to dark on my skin but it’s matching my skin tone perfectly. Sorry, too cheesy? Hehe. Anyway, a Stila representative was actually the one who helped me and she was such a sweetheart!! I had said I’ve been breaking out and I needed something to cover up my trouble spots. She not only redid my whole entire face, flawlessly but she also took the time to tell what I should avoid in terms of ingredients in make-up and in skincare products. Apparently I was kind of wrong about the type of skin I have. After thinking about it, it makes a lot more sense that my skin type is actually combination skin, both oily and dry. I don’t have a lot of Stila products besides their eyeshadows but after using this concealer, I think I may give their other products a go. Bottom line: The concealer blends really well, covers up redness and it is buildable.

(Left to Right) Essential Linen-Blend Shorts, Sleeveless Ruffle Trimmed Shirt, Matelot Trouser Shorts

Anyways, Forever 21 recently had a no minimum free shipping in celebration of Columbus Day, so I just had to buy something. BTW, I prefer shopping on their website most of the time but I do go in store and try things to see if certain styles work for me, first. The benefit from shopping online is you don’t have other people tampering with the clothes. Haven’t you ever bought something to find out later that previous person had smudged their make-up on them or broke something on it or even random loose threads and holes? I have and that’s why, you always need to check your merchandise before you purchase!! Or else you’ll go home, be excited of what you bought and then cry, because there is something wrong with it! But, I’m sure you already knew that. πŸ™‚ So, I purchased three items and one of them is already completely sold out on the site. I figured I would make a combination of what I would pair these three items with. Funny thing, I actually bought two pairs of shorts. I know, it’s going to be cold and maybe raining (hopefully, we need it). But, I just bought two pairs of knee high boots and I thought they would look great with shorts. Third item, is a sleeveless blouse, which I thought I could put under a blazer to keep warm and put together but also chic. Lately, I’ve been investing in pieces that I could wear everyday but most importantly, pieces I could dress up for work related situations. I’m currently searching for an appropriate job for myself and it’s been horribly depressing. Hahaha. What can I say? Anyway, getting my MFA has always been an option for me, so I am looking for graduate programs that would fit me. So far it’s been positive, some are insanely expensive while others are pretty reasonable. I prefer a two-year program but a three-year program would be awesome too. Anyone know of one? (I’m looking for a MFA program in Graphic Design, but more precisely in Web Design.) I’m willing to move out to where the school is. I’m thinking San Francisco or New York maybe even aboard? I’ve always wanted to move somewhere else, to pursue my dreams–in a place where no one knows me or has any negative view of me or thinks I’m too weird, or whatever. Yet, I’d miss my friends and family so much but it would honestly nice to just book myself a one way ticket to mysterious new land, fill of adventures, misadventures and just something–new and different. Wouldn’t it be nice? But, let’s be real, it’s not all fairy-tales and sparkles and ponies. I may be an optimist and an idealist but I’m not delusional. So, what were talking about it? LOL. Okay, so enjoy the imagery.

I love cardis and blazers to add warmth and awesomeness to my outfits. But I think adding chunky scarfs, long chained necklaces and statement looking bangles is a close second. Remember: Try not to over accessorize. It muddles your outfit–overwhelming and drowning it, making it look not cohesive. I can say, I am minimalist at heart, in practically everything I do. πŸ™‚ But, hey, that’s just how I prefer things. Anyone hear of deco-deco? It’s highly decorated, colorful accessorized outfits to the max. I don’t personally like it but I don’t hate it, it’s fascinating.

E.L.F. Fall 2012 Python Collection: First Impressions

Product Shot

Marissa, here!! I’m trying to get used to the whole blogging experience, I’m quite rusty. Especially considering I haven’t blogged since I was in high school. FYI, that was about six years ago! Geez, time flies by! I’m still trying to get used to being able to say, “When I used to be in college….” Really? Am I that old now?

Anyway, I was in my local Target a few weeks ago and I noticed this interesting snake print in the corner of my eyes–yes, it was nail polish! The packaging was alluring. (Nerd-gasm!) How could I resist! It was from the all and beloved company, E.L.F and the price, of course was killer, $2.00 each. Most of the colors were picked over, but the one that really interested me was this deep plum color. It reminded me of the upcoming season of Autumn–the leaves turning into a deep red, shades of yellow and oranges. And since I didn’t really have a color like this, I thought, “Why not? It’s 2 dollars what is the worse that could happen?”

First impression: Better than my expectations! In one coat it was pretty opaque. I would say it needs from 2 coats to 3 coats for maximum opaqueness. Also, it drys fairly quickly. Ever have a nail polish, that just would never dry? That probably won’t happen with this nail polish. Plus, I love the color since I didn’t have many deep rich purples in my collection. It’s not the most unique shade ever, but that’s quite a feat to accomplish nowadays. It’s a perfect color to compliment the Fall/Autumn season and the upcoming Winter season. I definitely recommend it, if you like purple nail polish. It’s not too bright, like a neon could be. Yet not super dark that it seems a little too vampy.

However, the #1 con for me was, after it dried, it bubbled on me!!! I absolutely hate when nail polishes do this. It may be the way I applied the nail polish, because to be truthfully honest, I’m not the best at it. But, if I were using any nail polish from OPI, I would never have any problem. No matter how many layers I put on, it remains bubble free. I’m not sure what causes this exactly. It could be the nail polish itself, the application or even the applicator. But, this nail polish definitely does bubble, so try to keep your coats as thin as possible. That seemed to work for me.

Hopefully, if you do see this in your local Target you’ll give it try! It’s affordable and the color payoff is quite nice. The collection has a nice range of colors including some glittery counterparts. I also believe this particular line is Target exclusive!!! Check it out. It doesn’t hurt. πŸ™‚
